On 1 January 2020, the old Tjeldsund Municipality merged with
Skånland
Municipality from Troms County into the new Tjeldsund
Municipality. The result of this merger is that the new Tjeldsund Municipality
took over the symbols of the old Tjeldsund Municipality, i.e. the symbols did
not change.

Blazon: I sølv et blått Antonius-kors. In English: Argent a cross of St.
Anthony azure
Approved by the crownprince-regent's resolution of 29 June 1990 after a drawing
by Arvid Sveen from Vadsø.
The symbolic is rather stightforward:
http://www.ngw.nl/heraldrywiki/index.php?title=Tjeldsund The T is the town's
initial, the colour blue refers to the sea. However, the
municipal web site provides another explanation as well: the blue shape also
stand for Tjeldsund and Ramsund straits connecting the mainland, the Tjeldøya
island and part of the Hinnøya island.
