On 1 January 2020, the old Åfjord Municipality and Roan Municipality merge into the new Åfjord Municipality.

The result of that merger is that the new Åfjord Municipality took over the symbols of the now former Roan Municipality, but so far I have no flag information to confirm this, only the coat of arms.
