Axel [former] municipality
On 1 July 1970 Axel, Koewacht, Overslag and Zuiddorpe
merged to form the new municipality of Axel, the flag in use is the same
as the former municipality of Axel. On 2 Jan 2003 Axel merged, together
with Sas van Gent with Terneuzen
municipality.

Axel Coat of Arms

The Coat of Arms was adapted slightly after the merger in 1970. The lion got
dressed up a bit, by giving him a golden crown and golden nails, he know
has a red tongue and a golden collar with a cross around his neck. The
Coat of Arms was approved by Royal decree on 17 June 1970.
