The municipal chronicler informed me they do not have a municipal flag.

Coat of Arms

In more recent months (The council informed me that no information could be found on their coat of arms last year), an article was published reading that it was designed by Gilberto Hernández Mar, who won a competition held by the Municipal Council promoted by the House of Culture (now defunct). It was officially registered with the Ministry of the Interior in 1998. The border is blue, reading "MATLAPA" at the top, having pre-Hispanic symbols to its sides for the living presence of the region's natives. To the sides and bottom "MUNICIPIO LIBRE DE MATLAPA SAN LUIS POTOSI" is read. At the bottom, a ribbon is depicted reading the motto "LIBERTAD Y JUSTICIA" [Liberty and Justice]. It has an inner section, which depicts in the background the Matlepoxtle Mountains. In the center, a page emerges from a map of the state of San Luis Potosí in the National Colors over an open book, indicating the location of the municipality. The page depicts a hand symbolizing work holding three oranges as the principal production of the municipality. To the left but still on the page, a cherry branch is depicted, as it is used in the production of coffee which is also an important part of the local economy. Also seen is a cob of corn, basic aliment, and a cow head for cattle-raising above on the right side. On the left side, sugarcane branches are also seen for the creation of piloncillo, also part of the local economy.
