The city emblem was adopted on Dec 1st 2005 but there is no flag law. The white flag has a green and a blue two color city emblem in the center. The city embelm is a stylized N of Nihonmatsu. The green color stands for the beautiful nature and the row of Abukuma mountains, the blue color for Abukuma River running thru the center of the city. It represents an image of the future city which is a core city of Adachi Region in the prefecture with a harmony and a solidarity of the new citizen and makes a leap forward to the future.

There is a flag design guide published by the city; there is also a variant that the city uses that is a white logo on either a green or blue background. The green is DIC 176 and the blue is DIC 183. The provided image by the city shows a 7:10 ratio flag, but there is no set ratio that is public.

The kanji character "安" (an) has been stylized into the town emblem in which the circular shape represents smoothness, while the protruding parts symbolize the town's rapid progress.

The design is based on the katakana character イ "I" the circle symbolizes unity and cooperation, while the diagonal line represents the town’s endless growth.
