Overview

Szigethalom is a town in Szigetszentmiklós district of Pest county, located in Budapest metropolitan area.
The area of the current city was inhabited as early as 3,500 years ago, in the Bronze Age. The first houses were only built in the 19th century, and until then the area had been used as pasture by the farmers of Tököl. After the First World War, the development of the area accelerated. In addition to the proximity to the capital, the job opportunities offered by local construction sites and industrial plants attracted people to settle here. Its population is constantly growing as a result of suburbanization.
The settlement has been a town since 01 July 2004.
