Overview

Piliscsaba is a town in Pilisvörösvár district, in northwestern Pest County, located in Budapest metropolitan area, in a valley between the Buda and Pilis hills.
The Roman military road connecting Aquincum (óbuda) with Brigetio (újszőny) used to run through this area.
The name of the town is traced back to King Csaba according to folk tradition. Its first written record dates back to 1263, when it was owned by the lord Mois and his brother Sándor. In 1274, the son of the same name of the lord Mois gave the village to the nuns of Nyulak-sziget (a document from the same period also mentions the nearby Aynard castle, which was already in the territory of Perbál).
In 1409, the lord of Solymar cut down most of the nuns' forests in Csaba and destroyed the village. In 1451, Csaba is listed as a predium, and the nuns rented it out. At the end of the 15th century, the village was repopulated, but at the beginning of the Turkish occupation it was destroyed, and only in the 18th century was it rebuilt. It was resettled in the 19th century as the estate of the Poor Clares of Buda.
Piliscsaba received town status on July 15, 2013.

The Flag

The flag of the town consists of three horizontal stripes, which are sky blue, golden yellow and green. The coat of arms is placed in the center of the flag. The ratio is 1:2.
The sky blue symbolizes the oxygen-rich air of Piliscsaba, which is due to the blessed activity of the trees. The gold color of the middle stripe symbolizes the sacred place and historical past of Piliscsaba in the agglomeration, the wonderful environmental conditions that make Piliscsaba so popular among those wishing to relax - the sacred environment is the gold of Piliscsaba. The green color of the flag suggests that more than 52% of the administrative area of Piliscsaba is forest, which surrounds our residential area and results in such a fresh oxygen-rich microclimate.
The flag was originally adopted in April 1991. The current legislation is 21/2016. (X.12.) adopted on 12 October 2016.

The Coat of Arms

image by Zoltan Horvath, 12 January 2025

The coat of arms of Piliscsaba is a speaking coat of arms, which means that the symbols appearing in the coat of arms - a falcon, an oak leaf wreath, green hills, an ear of wheat, and the plough below it - have both local and national meanings.
The baroque-style oak leaf wreath that frames the coat of arms indicates the abundance of trees in our settlement and indicates that the population and management of Piliscsaba hold trees and green surfaces in great esteem. The triple hill in the green field expresses that the settlement is located in a hilly and mountainous region covered mostly by forest, and as a former holiday and hunting ground of Archduke Joseph, it hints at the times before Trianon. The ears of wheat starting from a common braided stem symbolize the intertwining, cohesion and belonging of the three ears of wheat of the main nationalities living here - Germans, Slovaks and Gypsies.
The coat of arms was adopted in April 1991.
