Presentation of Bierge

Bierge is a municipality located in the province of Huesca, Aragon, Spain. It has 243 inhabitants on 14,503 ha.

Description

Municipality of Bierge in the Province of Huesca has its symbols, adopted only by its Ayuntamiento in 2021. As far as I can see, there is no document that Government of Aragon approved the symbols of Bierge.

Coat of arms and flag:
In January 2021, after a thorough study of the town's history, Bierge has a new coat of arms and municipal flags, symbols that reflect the importance of this municipality and its inhabitants throughout history.
The Bierge coat of arms is a Spanish rectangular shield with a rounded base.
Both the coat of arms and the flag feature, on a gold field, fifteen five-pointed stars in gules (bright red), arranged in three rows of five. These fifteen stars represent the fifteen villages that originally comprised the municipality : Bierge, Las Almunias de Rodellar, Rodellar, Yaso, Morrano, Pedruel, San Román, San Saturnino, Otín, Nasarre, Letosa, San Póliz, Cheto, Pardina de Villanúa, and Pardina de Ballabriga. Currently, some of these villages are uninhabited.
The second third of the crown and coat of arms is occupied by one of the municipality's sacred trees, the holm oak (Quercus ilex) . It's important to note that the holm oak was a sacred tree and was worshipped by the Celtiberian peoples. Furthermore, until relatively recently, important meetings, agreements, business deals, land disputes, and weddings, among other things, were held under the largest holm oaks. In this regard, it's worth mentioning that in 1873, the First Republic was proclaimed under the "Holm Oak of the Crowns."
Finally, in the center of the tip of the shield and at the bottom of the flag, the profile of some mountains is shown, representing the Sierra and Canyons of Guara Natural Park.
