Introduction
Frachtkontor Junge & Co GmbH
At the beginning of the 20th century a group of important German ship
owners, among those HAPAG, Norddeutscher Lloyd and Rob. M. Sloman jr. established
the Deutsche Kohlen Depot (German coal depot), in order to transport coal
to overseas depots and to supply German steamships with coal around the
world. This company established the Frachtkontor Gesellschaft mbH on 7
April 1905.
Accompanied by several mining companies Frachtkontor established Seereederei
“Frigga” in 1920, holding 25%+ of the total shares. Frachtkontor became
exclusive agent of “Frigga”.
In the same year Poseidon Schiffahrt KG is established together with
Hugo Stinnes.
1922 the company gains the exclusive right to act as a chartering and
transport agent for important Scandinavian iron and steelworks.
In 1942 Erwin Junge became Managing Director, the company changed and
renamed itself as Frachtkontor Junge & co.
In 1965 the company sold its shares of “Frigga”.
In 1972 the Stinnes Group, owner of Poseidon, acquires 50% of the company.
The chartering departments of Poseidon and Frachtkontor merged. In the
same year a tanker department was started, an agency department two years
later.
In 1993 Frachtkontor acquires 100% of Poseidon, in 1996 Stinnes AG
becomes the only shareholder of Frachtkontor.
In 2000 Frachtkontor’s business structure was changed and the company
was renamed as Frachtkontor Junge & Co GmbH.
In 2008 the tanker department merged with Tanker Broker team of John
T. Essberger GmbH & Co KG, establishing the Frachtkontor-Essberger
Tanker Brokers GmbH & Co KG (FET).
