Stadtlauringen Coat of Arms

Shield Argent parted by a cross patty Gules, its sinister arm ending in a hand Gules, in dexter base a sword Argent hilted Or in pale pointing downwards.
Meaning:
In 1475 the Bishops of Würzburg acquired the market town of Niederlauringen, granted city rights and renamed the town. In 1818 the city rights were lost. Already the oldest city seals with prints from 1520 and 1631 displayed the strange pattern, probably alluding to the market cross and a local courtyard. Otto Hupp erroneously assumed that the attributes were alluding to the executuions of rebellious peasants in 1525. In the 19th century the tinctures were replaced by the Bavarian tinctures blue and white.
