The shield is divided by 14 alternating red and silver (= white) girons. In the centre is a blue inescutcheon displaying a silver (= white) double-oak.
Meaning:
The girons are symbolising the 14 municipalities of the former subcounty. Those were: Beringstedt, Grauel, Heinkenborstel, Jahrsdorf, Meezen, Mörel, Nienborstel, Nindorf, Osterstedt, Rade bei Hohenwestedt, Remmels, Tappendorf, Todenbüttel and Wapelfeld. The double-oak is symbolising the undissolvable union between Schleswig and Holstein and is alluding to the merger of the subcounties of Beringstedt and Hohenwestedt-Land in 1975. The colours are those of Schleswig-Holstein.
