Neuburg Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale; at dexter a sinister facing farmer Argent with hat and boots, holding three grain ears Or by his sinister hand; at sinister Argent a griffin rampant Gules, issuant from base a triplemount Vert.
Meaning:
The triplemount is alluding to the location in the local forest. The line of partition is symbolising the merger of Neuburg proper and Neukirchen in 1972. The griffin is taken from the apocryphal arms of the Counts of Vornbach. The current municipality was part of the County of Vornbach. The counts established Neuburg Castle in the 11th century, which had been their ancestral seat since then, after the counts had transfed their original seat to a monastery. The griffin had also been the heraldic animal of the Benedictine Vornbach Monastery until 1803. The monastery had been an important manorial lord. The farmer is taken from the former municipal arms (1955 - 1972) of Neukirchen, which were based on the personal arms of Benedikt Höchpauer, son of a farmer of Vornbach and abbot of the monastery between 1624 and 1645. The tinctures red and silver are those of Austria. The Counts of Neuburg had been Austrian vassals between the 13th century and 1803.
