Mundelsheim Municipal Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a red shield is a white hand. Above the hand is a black antler.
Meaning:
Mundelsheim gained city rights in 1422, granted by the Lords of Urbach. The oldest known seal of the city dates from the early 15th century and displays the arms of Baden, with a grape vine. The city belonged to Baden and the vine symbolized the importance of viticulture for the city. When the city became a part of Württemberg in 1595 the abolition of the old arms was demanded by the new sovereign. The new arms in the beginning only displayed the hand, which possibly symbolizes the oath to Württemberg. The antler is taken from the arms of Württemberg and is first mentioned in 1604, though still missing in reports from 1596 and 1605.

Banner and coat of arms were approved on 4 August 1980 by the county administration, published in GABl 231/1981.
