Shield Azure, a crowned lady passant Argent, holding a big acorn of the same in her hands, she is flanked by two columns of four millstones Or.
Meaning:
Lady and acorn are representing the rivers Ilse (lady) and Ecker (acorn). "Ecker" is a German generic term for some kinds of nuts, as e.g. beech nuts and acorns. Both are considered to be canting. The depiction of the Ilse as a woman is based on a novel by Heinrich Heine, where he personalised the river as a female. The eight millstones are referring to the eight former municipalities and to the formerly common watermills in the area.
