Shield Gules, a hops umbel Or with stem.
Meaning:
The cultivation of hops always played an important economic role in the town. The umbel first appeared on a local seal from the 17th century. In order to avoid mismatches with a grapevine, the umbel was always painted without leaf. Nevertheless there had been a mismatch in 1811, when the arms displayed a golden grape in a blue shield. The umbel was re-established on local seals since 1954.
