The municipal flag of McLennan, Alberta (population 824) features a steam
locomotive, maple leaf and a bird along with the motto: “Bird Capital of
Canada”. Nearby Kimiwan Lake is recognized by the Alberta Province as an
important waterfowl bird nesting and staging habitat for some 200 different
species of birds. The steam locomotive commemorates the community’s early
history as a major railway centre located 187 kilometers NE of the City of
Grande Prairie.
