The flag was designed by Adilson Duarte da Costa and approved by municipal
law no. 373 de of 29 October 1973. The colors yellow, blue, white, green,
and red are the colors of the Brazilian and Minas Gerais flags. The white
bird represents the people of Araújos in their ideal of peace and liberty.
The head of the bird represents the legislative, executive, and judiciary
powers, its eyes the vision of the municipal rulers. Its wings represent
the students of the municipality, and the
open book on its breast knowledge. The letters in the bird's beak are
T for trabalho (work), U for união (union), D for desenvolvimento
(development) and O for ordem (order), spelling out the word TUDO (all,
everyone). The arrow indicates progress and the links of chain the unity of
the people. The green star signifies natural riches: streams, woods, and
rivers. The stalks of maize (corn) and rice and the cow's head represent
the main agricultural products. The date on the scroll, flanking the name
of the municipality, is for 1 January 1954, the date Araújos was
incorporated as a separate municipality. The triangle at the top represents
God above everything else and the predominant religion of the municipality.
(It is also the symbol of Minas Gerais.)
