The municipality of El Trébol (11,086 inhabitants in 2010; 34,400 ha) is
located 180 km south-west of Santa Fe. El Trébol is composed of three
settlements that were established independently from each other (Pueblo Passo -
1889, El Trébol - 1890, and Tais - 1892) and merged to form the municipality of
El Trébol by a Provincial Decree issued in 1894.
On 15 January 1890, the
Argentine Central Railways (Ferrocaril Central Argentina) inaugurated the Cańada
de Gómez - Las Yerbas railway. The first train dropped in El Trébol 60 people
who would establish the first settlement. The railway was built with British
capital. As a reward, three stations were named for the symbols of Britain: Las
Rosas (The Roses), for England; Los Cardos (The Thistles), for Scotland; and El
Trébol (The Clover) for Ireland. In 1895, El Trébol counted 333 inhabitants in
the urban nucleus and another 3,303 in rural areas, where the Compańía Argentina
de Tierra e Inversiones had set plots on land acquired from Marcelino Freyres.

The flag
of El Trébol was adopted on 16 May 2020.
The flag, selected by a jury among
33 proposals, was designed by Fausto Cena, a 10-years old pupil of Escuela
Laprida.
The flag is divided into three diagonal stripes running from the
upper hoist to the lower fly, from top to bottom, celestial blue-golden
yellow-red, separated from each other by a white fimbriation. A green clover
leaf fimbriated in white is placed in canton, with its upper lobe pointing
towards the flag's upper left corner.
The three lobes of the clover leaf
represent the three settlements that originally formed El Trébol (Pueblo Passo,
El Trébol and Tais). The location of the clover leaf at the design's vanishing
point emphasizes the equal contribution of all inhabitants to the development of
El Trébol.
Blue represents abundance, spiritual life and knowledge.
Red
represents memory (who we were, who we are), valiance, force and power.
Yellow represents optimism, rejuvenation, glee and felicity (the sun).
Green
represents the natural environment, fertility and hope.
The flag also
features the colors of the national (celestial blue, white and golden yellow)
and provincial flag (blue, white, red and yellow). These are also the colors
used by different schools of the town, such as Escuela de Enseńanza Secundaria
Orientada No. 210 (yellow and green), Escuela de Educación Secundaria Técnico
Profesional No. 343 (white, blue, red and green), and Instituto Superior No. 23
(blue, red, yellow and green), and sports clubs, such as Trebolense (celestial
blue and white), El Expreso (green and white), and San Lorenzo (blue and red).
The flag represents a path illuminated by the sun. The path has a very
important role in the development of the society, heading to the clover, which
is the symbol identifying the municipality.
