Description of the flag

According to W. Smith's Flag Book of the U.S. [smi75a], the lion is from the arms of the Albini family of Attleborough, England, the chain around the shield symbolizes the local jewelry industry, and the marks that look like lambda-alpha-lambda are the three marks used by the local Indian chief Wamsutta on the deed transferring to the English settlers the first area now making up the town.
Joe McMillan, 11 February 2001
