The San Carlos City Council made history during its November 12, 2024 session by officially adopting the city’s first-ever official flag. Note that although there is a “City Seal” flag that is flown at the City Hall, it has no formal designation. The landmark decision for an official city flag coincides with preparations for the city’s Centennial celebrations, making it a significant and symbolic milestone for San Carlos.
During the meeting, Councilmember Ron Collins introduced the agenda item, this being one of his final contributions as a council member before he retires after this term. Presented by City Attorney Greg Rubens, the resolution included eight flag designs, each featuring distinct elements that represent San Carlos’s identity and history:
While the “100 Years” City Seal Flag will fly as the official emblem, the Council also approved all eight designs for official use. This decision allows flexibility in displaying different flags for various events and settings. For example, the “City of Good Living” flag is expected to resonate with residents who wish to showcase their local pride, while the traditional and Centennial flags will feature prominently at city facilities and formal events.

The white version has flown outside of the city hall since 2019; at this time, it continues to function as the de facto city flag.
