Description of the flag

San Leandro, California is a city of about 70,000 residents located immediately south of Oakland, California and southeast of San Francisco.

Information provided by the Community Relations Representative of the City of San Leandro stated:

"The San Leandro City Flag was first unveiled during the San Leandro Centennial-Bicentennial celebrations in March, 1972. The idea for the creation of a San Leandro City Flag was proposed by City Councilman William Suerstedt, ...

The colors of the San Leandro Flag - red lettering on a yellow and white banner - symbolize both the Spanish and Portuguese heritage of our city. ...

The San Leandro City logo, as it appears on our flag, was one of the earliest logo designs created for our city. It depicts San Leandro's many diversified characteristics: a cherished home of San Leandro citizens; a bustling industrial center; a city blessed with refreshing recreational resources; and cherries reflecting San Leandro's renowned agricultural past. The rising sun surrounding the logo symbolizes our hope for an even brighter tomorrow."
