Use of the flag

The Order of Mercy is a Military order founded in Spain by St Peter Nolasco to rescue/ransom Christian slaves held by the Moors. The Order was a Military Order for 100 years then becoming a Clerical order of Priests. Knights and dames were re-admitted in 1922, and reaffirmed in 2002. The Orders HQ is in Rome and the Knights Secretariat is in Catania. The Knights and dames support the Priests of the Order and carry out Humanitarian work.

Their flag is the ancient arms of Aragon, a red shield with 5 vertical gold bars, above which is the white cross of the Cathedral of Barcelona. The shield is surmounted by the Aragonese Royal Crown.
