About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain white field. (Note that colour of flag was concluded due to the images of the arms as given in the municipal webpage)

Coat of arms

Shield Azure a phoenix Argent flanked by three 8-point stars Or, base wavy of Argent and Azure. Mural crown with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading "FREGUESIA DE PORTO MONIZ".
Meaning:
The arms had been the personal arms of Tristão Vaz, a local captain, who started the colonization of the village, which was finished by namegiver Francisco Moniz.

Porto Moniz Commune is one of the four communes of Porto Moniz Municipality (q.v.); it had 1668 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 21 km².
