Coat of Arms

Shield Or a dolmen Gules, flanked on chief by two cowls Sable ordered per fess, issuant from base wavy of Argent and Azure a triplemount Vert. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "UNIÃO DAS FREGUESIAS DE ARCA E VARZIELAS".
Meaning:
The cowls are common elements of the arms of both former communes. Base and mount are representing former Varzielas Commune, the dolmen former Arca Commune.

Presentation of Arca e Varzielas

Arca e Varzielas was formed in 2013, when its former communes merged. They had together 718 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 20,3 km², being the southern exclave of the municipality.

Meaning:
The crossed keys are an attribute of St. Peter, the local patron saint.
