It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain red field.

Shield Or with base wavy of Azure and Argent, issuant from base wavy a bridge Sable masoned Argent with two arches, on chief three hazelnut twigs Vert fruited Gules ordered 2:1. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "AVELÃS DA RIBEIRA".
Meaning:
The twigs of hazelnut (Portuguese: aveleiras) are canting as well as the base wavy, representing a nameless creek (Portuguese: ribeira). The bridge is the ancient local bridge crossing the creek, image see  here

Avelãs da Ribeira is one of the 34 communes of Guarda Municipality not affected by the 2013 changes; it had 142 inhabitants in 2021 and covers 11,30 km².
