It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of green and yellow.

Coat of Arms (2001 - 2013/2016)

Shield Or a bouquet of three flax flowers Vert blossomed Azure, flanked on chief by a cross patty Gules charged with a Greek cross Argent, on base by a triplemount issuant Vert. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and long white scroll, as usually used by united communes, reading in black upper case serifed letters "FREGUESIA DE ALVAIÁZERE".
Meaning:
The triplemount is a representation of the Alvaiázere Mountains (Portuguese: Serra de Alvaiázere) having pekss of some 600 meters height. The cross refers to the Order of Christ, the bouquet to the production of linen.

Meaning:
The apples (Port.: maçãs) are canting elements. The cross is alluding to the Order of Christ.
