About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain red field.

Coat of arms

Shield Or an olive tree eradicated Vert flanked by two wheat sheaves Vert tied Gules, in central chief a Greek cross Gules having three acorns Vert capsuled or at every arm. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "VILA DE OLIVEIRINHA - AVEIRO".
The name of the commune means something like "little olive tree", thus the tree might be canting. The acorn cross is an attribute of St. Anthony, probably being the local patron saint.
