Coat of Arms

[COA of Ulstein]image by Tomislav Šipek, 30 December 2015

Blazon: På blå grunn ein gull bjelke laga med ulvetannsnitt. In English: Azure a fess indented or.
Approved by the royal resolution of 30 May 1986 after a drawing by Jarle Skuseth after an idea by Asbjørn Waage. [c2j87]
The design is canting for "ulf" - wolf (and the place name was indeed written as Ulfsteen and similar previously), the indented line of partition being named "wolf teeth" line in Norwegian [like in some other languages]), although, as noted at http://www.ngw.nl/heraldrywiki/index.php?title=Ulstein  the place name actually comes from the river Ulva. It also says the blue colour represents the sea, the gold the wheat. See also the municipal web site.
