Blazon: I blått to sølv reinsdyrhoder, 1-1. In English: Azure two reindeer heads argent in pale.
Approved by the royal resolution of 2 June 1989 after a drawing by Arvid Sveen

The design cants the municipal name but there were always much of those in the mountains around. However, name has nothing to do with reindeer, but comes from the Rena river. Two heads were chosen to differentiate from other municipal arms using reindeer, but are interpreted as symbols for two previous municipalities of Ytre Rendal and Øvre Rendal.
