Waskemeer village flag
Stefan Lambrechts found at an internetpage mention of a flag for the village
of Waskemeer (Frisian: Waskemar), in the municipality of Ooststellingwerf,
Fryslân province. He wrote to the webmaster of the Waskemeer
villagesite and received a nice image: a blue hoist with three white
ram's heads on top of each other and a fly consisting of 7 equal horizontal
stripes of black and white. Adoprion date and designer unknown.
Waskemeer is since 1954 a separate village on the border of Ooststellingwerf
and Opsterland; before that it was part of the vilage of Haulerwijk. Sad
to say that Waskemeer has no nickname - so this flag may signify: "We,
the Waskemarsters, wanna be known as Ram's Heads"!
