Dokkum : The city flag, established 29-1-1948, consists of: "Four stripes
The Coat of Arms is: Blue, three six-pointed stars gold, placed 1 : 2, from above accompanied by a turned Wassenaar silver. On top of the shield a golden crown.
Under Dokkum the crescent is described as a turned lying crescent.
Under Municipal arms a picture shows the horns of the crescent to reach all the way around the top stat to just outside the tops of the other stars. However, nothing indicates where the colour red stems from. All I can think of is that the crown may customary be depicted lined red, like the crown on the shield on the eagle on the Bolsward flag.

Dokkum: expensive hand-embroidered banner according to the municipal
arms; the fly enriched with four swallowtails, ending in tassels, following
the colors of the municipal flag; the flagpole with as finial a handmade
copper shrimp (the nickname of Dokkumers is "Granaet" = "garnaal",
shrimp). Offered to the municipality by the Dokkumer Vlaggen Centrale at
the occasion of a new factory.
<Once upon a time a huge shrimp was caught in the vicinity of Dokkum. The municipal council decided to chain it under De Zijl in the center of Dokkum, so that the Prince-stadhouder could admire it should he wish to visit the city. The next day the granaet had gone, but the chain was still there.>

Yesterday I saw this in the municipal hall of Dongeradeel (Fryslân),
which is the old city hall of Dokkum (minus Granaet and tassels - I don't
know how to do that :-(
