Located in Nomi City Ishikawa Prefecture and established in 1990. The institute flag has white background with a blue, green and black emblem. The emblem is based on the abbreviation of the university's English name, "JAIST," with an oriental and noble curved design, the English name, and the year of foundation. The overall design represents a refreshing graduate school in a vast natural setting, with the blue of the Sea of Japan as the base color, the greenery of abundant nature, and the white of the famous Mt. Hakusan.
