Presentation of Montataire

The municipality of Montataire (13,461 inhabitants in 2015; 1,066 ha) is located just west of Creil.

Montataire became a village in its own right in the 11th century with the construction of a castle and a church by Hugues de Clermont. A stronghold of the peasant revolt known as jacquerie in the 14th century, Montataire was long turned to agriculture and livestock before industrializing in the 19th century with the construction of factories producing buttons, hooves, socks ans corsets.
The forge eestbalished in 1792 woujd become, when bought by the Mertian brothers, Usine des Forges then, successively, the Société des ponts et travaux en fer of Henri Joret, and eventually a strelwork owned by Usinor, Sollac, and, lastly, Arcelor.
