Termes-d'Armagnac (199 inhabitants, 1,005 ha) is a commune in the Gers
department.
The name Termes comes from the Latin termini, meaning "limit," as the
fortress is located on the border between the County of Armagnac and
Béarn. Overlooking the confluence of the Adour and Arros rivers, it
held considerable strategic importance, guarding the domain of Gaston
Fébus, Count of Foix-Béarn.
Of the castle of Thibaut de Termes d'Armagnac, companion of Joan of
Arc, only the keep remains.
The renovation of the Termes-d'Armagnac Tower was carried out by André
Boingnères (1904-1978), mayor of his native village for over 20 years.
This renovation allowed the Tower to be opened to the public and the
organization of major regional cultural events, leaving an indelible
mark on Termes-d'Armagnac.
The coat of arms of Termes-d'Armagnac is blazoned:
Party per pale, Argent a lion counter-rampant Gules, and Gules a lion
rampant guardant Or.
