Symbols of Fuente el Saz de Jarama

The flag (photos) and arms of Fuente el Saz de Jarama are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 1 August 2002 by the Government of the Community of Madrid and published on 6 August 2002 in the official gazette of the Community of Madrid, No. 185, pp. 39-40 (text) and on 30 August 2002 in the Spanish official gazette, No. 208, p. 31,933 (text).
The symbols were originally adopted on 28 April 1993 by the Municipal Council. The Heraldry Assessors recommended modifications on 3 July and 23 August 1995. So did the Royal Academy of History on 22 March 1996. The Municipal Council agreed on possible solutions on 14 March 1997. On 9 March 2001, the Heraldry Assessors approved the two proposed solutions, except the tincture in the second proposed coat of arms, which was recommended to be changed from or to argent. The Municipal Council eventually adopted on 25 October 2001 one of the proposals, taking into account the recommendation made by the Academy.
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: In proportions 2:3, diagonally divided from the upper fly to the lower hoist, the upper part blue and charged with the municipal coat of arms, the lower part white and embroidered with the image of the Santísima Virgen de la Cigüeñuela, the town's patron saint.
Coat of arms: Argent a tree vert (willow) over waves azure and argent. The shield surmounted by a Royal Spanish crown.

The Royal Academy of History turned down the proposed arms, accepting the design of canting arms but rejecting its application. The arms feature a willow [sauce] with a waterpipe emerging from the trunk and pouring water in a square cistern, represented in perspective view in front of the tree and overflowing down to the base of the shield. This representation is hardly heraldic and lacks logic. A fountain [fuente] is clearly not a cistern.
The flag cannot be assessed since it features the erroneous coat of arms.

t is not possible to see on the aforementioned photos of the flag which arms are used. The drawing of the flag of the municipal website features the rejected coat of arms.

The statue of the Virgen de la Cigüeñuela (lit., Virgin of the Small Stork) is kept in the Cigüeñuela chapel, located 2 km south-west of Fuente el Saz de Jarama, close to the town's cemetery. The chapel was erected in the 18th century, but a previous sanctuary might have already existed in the 16th century. The origin of the statue is unknown.
During the town's festival, celebrated in early September, the statue is transported in a procession (photos, 2014) from the chapel to the Apostle St. Peter church.
