Presentation of Illana

The municipality of Illana (654 inhabitants in 2018; 9,330 ha) is located on the border with the Province of Cuenca, 80 km south-east of Guadalajara and 80 km north-west of Cuenca.

Symbols of Illana

The flag of Illana is prescribed by Order No. 47 issued on 8 March 2019 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 20 March 2019 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 56, p. 8,716 (text).
The flag is described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular panel, in proportions 2:3, white with a red diagonal stripe running from the hoist's lower angle to the fly's upper fly, in width 1/4 of the flag's width. In the center, the crowned coat of arms of the municipality, in height 60% of the flag's hoist.

The flag, designed by the Spanish Vexillological Society, was approved by 94.5% of the voters in the election organized from 29 March to 3 November 2018.

The coat of arms of Illana is prescribed by an Order issued on 13 January 1992 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 17 January 1992 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 4, p. 141 (text).
The coat of arms is described as follows:

Coat of arms: Spanish shield. Argent a bend sinister gules a crozier or cantonned by an olive tree proper and a Cross of Calatrava gules. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.

The crozier and the cross symbolize tow feudal lords of Illana, the Archbishop of Toledo and the Order of Calatrava, respectively. Olive trees are abundant on the municipal territory.
