Sankt Wendel City Coat of Arms

Shield Azure parted by a centred cross Or, each quarter charged with a fleur de lis Argent.
Meaning:
Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian granted city rights in 1332. The oldest city seal with prints from 1442 displayed the name giver St. Wendelin, holding a shield displaying the current arms. Wendelin had been the patron of the herdsmen. Due to a legend he had been a prince from Scotland. The lilies thus are considered to be taken from the arms of Scotland. The cross in modified tincture is alluding to the Archbishopric of Trier.
