Untergriesbach Coat of Arms

Shield Argent a sinister facing wolf rampant Gules.
Meaning:
The arms are a differentiation of those of the Bishopric of Passau, to which Griesbach belonged until 1806. The first town seal probably was mad before 1800. The same pattern was displayed on the medal of the mayor (around 1820), a coloured painting (1830) and later town seals. It was also kept by the new edition (1856) of Siebmacher's roll of arms and by Otto Hupp (1925).
The rights of a market town were granted in 1260 by Otto of Lonsdorf as Bishop of Passau. The privileges were extended in 1456 by Bishop Ulrich of Nußdorf. The original name had been simply "Griesbach", afterwards "Griesbach am hohen Markt"" in order to distinguish from ""Griesbach in der Zel"", the old name of Obernzell. Since 1806 the town had its current name in order to distinguish from Griesbach im Rottal.
