Bad Peterstal-Griesbach Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, on a mount Vert issuant from base a saint, nimbed Or, dressed Argent, holding a key Or by his right hand.
Meaning:
Spas had been in the Renchtal, a valley, since the 14th century. In the 16th century the Peterstal , i.e. Peter's valley, became the centre of the spas in the Renchtal. The name St. Petersbrunnen was probably based on a chapel, dedicated to St. Peter, name giver of the municipality and on the arms recognisable by his attribute, the golden key. It became famous in the 17th century and gained international renown since 1871. After Peterstal had become a part of Baden, it was entitled to have its proper seal since 1820. Until 1904 the patron of village and parish was depicted with two keys. Peterstal gained the title of a spa (German: Bad) in 1920. The details of the arms were fixed in 1960 but slightly modified probably after 1973. On 1 July 1973 the neighbouring Bad Griesbach was incorporated. The municipality was however renamed on 27 August 1973.
