The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is an armorial flag. The charges are shifted to the hoist.

Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a green field are three golden (=yellow) eagles orderd two above one. Above the eagles is a golden (= yellow) label having five flaps.
Meaning:
According to source the arms are based upon the arms of Anstel castle, which used seals with three eagles since 1355. The label had been added to symbolize the five former independent municipalities.

The coat of arms (and probably also the flag) was approved by Regierungspräsident Düsseldorf on 4 October 1979.
