    Neubrandenburg Flag

    The flag is vertically divided red-white-red in proportions 1:2:1 or 2:5:2. The charges of the coat of arms are displayed in the white stripe.

    Neubrandenburg Coat of Arms

    Shield Argent, a city gate Gules with two towers, two ports Argent, windows Argent and wings in flanches, between the towers a helmet blue crested with an eagle's wing Gules.
    Meaning:
    The arms are based on a city seals. Its first prints appeared in 1287. The gate is stressing the status as a fortified city. Helmet and eagle's wing are the crest of the arms of the founder. The city was a dominion of Pommern until 1236. Margrave Johann I of Brandenburg in 1248 instructed Knight Herbord of Raven to build a city with circular layout to protect the acquired region. The city got the name Nove Brandenburg and gained city rights according to the Brandenburg pattern. At the end of the 13th century the city became a possession of the Lords of Mecklenburg together with the Lordship of Stargard.

    The flag was approved on22 April 1991 by Minister of Interior of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The arms were confirmed on 11 May 1966 by the local council. Both were published in the Municipal Roll of Arms Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as no.40.
