Sparneck Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, a pair of wings Argent, charged with a pair of chevrons Gules.
Meaning:
The pattern was already used in common seals of Sparneck and Zell around 1600. The chevron (German: Sparren) was a canting element of the arms of the Lords of Sparneck. Together with the wing it was also part of the crest. An armourial from 1767 (Reiß), after the kin had died out, displayed an erroneous version of the arms, which was used later also in the official image from 1811. It displayed the quartered shield of the Zollern kin, supported by a golden and a red wing, each wing superimposed by a disc in counterchanged tinctures charged with a heart. In 1819 a quartered shield was introduced with quarters blue-golden-red-blue and a reversed heart in the 2nd and 3rd quarter. The original pattern was introduced again in 1937.
