Loitz Coat of Arms

In a red shield are five silver (= white) 6-point stars in pale between two golden (=yellow) clubs in pale. The whole ensemble is flanked by two black eagle wings pointing downward.
Meaning:
The Loitz region was ceded from the Dukes of Pommern to the Princes of Mecklenburg in 1326. The latter enfeoffed Knight Detlev of Gadebusch with the region. He granted city rights in 1242. The owners of the city changed frequently during the next centuries. The arms are based on an old city seal (no date is given by source). The wings are taken from the family arms of the Lords of Gadebusch-Loitz. The clubs are alluding to the fact that the city was seat of a court. The meaning of the stars is unknown. It was believed by the local people that they are symbolising fortune and fame.
