Gottenheim Coat of Arms

Shield Argent with base Vert, a lion rampant Gules, holding a club Sable in pale by his forepaws.
Meaning:
Gottenheim existed as a legal entity since the 14th century. Two municipal seals since 1679 displayed a plough share and three stars. Municipal seals from the 19th century already displayed a lion holding a club or branch. Perhaps the lion is taken from the family arms of the Barons of Wittenbach, displaying a golden lion passant and crowned on a white bar wavy in a green shield with red triplemount. The barons had been local rulers from the 17th until the 19th century. The State Archive based its draft on that seal. The tincture of the club was changed later.

The banner was approved on 12 August 1986 by the county administration, published in GABl 688/1988. The arms were adopted by the municipality in 1900.
