Emmendingen Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Or a bend Gules, at sinister Azure, a knight statant Argent in clad armour, with his left hand at his sword's hilt and holding a staff in his right hand.
Meaning:
The branch line of the Margraves of Baden-Hachberg with seat in Hochburg near Emmendingen granted the rights of a market town in 1418. The first seal with prints since 1466 displayed the Badenian bend at dexter and a plough share at sinister. The plough share was replaced by a knight on occasion of the elevation to a city in 1590 by Margrave Jakob III. The knight probably was alluding to the fortifications, built in the 16th century.
