Rain Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess; above Sable a lion's head guardant Or, crowned and tongued Gules; beneath lozengy of Argent and Azure.
Meaning:
A seal was first mentioned in 1278. The first prints appeared in 1305, probably based on the seal mentioned before. The seal already displayed the same pattern. The lion's head is a differentiation of the arms of the Palatine Counts. The lozengy shield displays the family arms of the Wittelsbach kin.The pattern remained basically the same, especially on the seals later than 1317 and on coloured paintings since 1523. The current pattern was restored by Otto Hupp, after there had been erroneous changes in details of the lion.

The banner was approved and the arms were confirmed in 1966 by Minister of Interior of Bayern.
