Bernsdorf Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess, above Azure an eagle´s wing Or with clover blossom of the same, beneath Or a bear passant Sable.
Meaning:
Bernsdorf was first mentioned in 1310, when it belonged to the Lordship of Kamenz. In 1793 a smelter and a hammer mill were established. Due to increasing industrialisation Bernsdorf gained city rights in 1968. The wing displays the family arms of the Lords of Kamenz and is alluding to Bernhard of Kamenz, who founded the preceding village. The bear is a punning element, as the name is referring to the founder, not to the animal.
