Hallstadt Coat of Arms

French shield Or two halberds Argent hafted Sable in saltire.
Meaning:
The pattern is mentioned in 1603 within the panel of vassals of the Bishopric of Bamberg and appeared before in 1588 on an architectural sculpture at the town hall and on St. Kilian's Bridge in 1755. It is also displayed on local seals since the late 17th century. The tinctures had been unknown. Since 1812 the current tinctures are in use. Black and yellow had been the colours of the bishopric. The halberds are alluding to the guild of sentinels, who was obliged to organise a vigil during the visits of the bishop and hence gained special privileges since 1594. The village had been seat of the bishop's treasure chamber, it gained the rights of a market town in 1503 and of a city in 1954.
