Altenburger Land Coat of Arms

Shield quartered, 1st quarter Argent a heraldic rose Gules seeded Or and barbed Vert, 2nd quarter Azure a lion rampant parted per fess of Or and Argent, 3rd quarter barry of ten of Sable and Or over all a crancelin Vert, 4th quarter Argent an acorn Gules capsuled Vert.
Meaning:
The rose is representing the name giving Burgraviate of Altenburg. The lion is symbolising the Pleißenland, which developed from the Sorbian Plisni Shire. The 3rd quarter is representing the rule of the Ernestine branch of the Wettin kin. Acorn (the German equivalent of clubs) is the highest suit of Skat, a game of cards for three players, which had been invented in Altenburg.
