Rieden Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, a sinister facing male dog rampant Sable, tongued Gules with a collar Or.
Meaning:
The first image of the arms was known by a roll of arms painted by Philipp Apian in 1568, displaying however a dexter facing dog. It is told that there had existed a deed, describing the town arms, whixh got lost by a fire in 1662. Until 1819 literature followed the version of 1568, afterwards the dog was depicted as sinister facing. The male dog (German: Rüde) is referring to a local hunting lodge. But he is also a canting element.
